Positive Outcomes Through Positive Psychology Coaching
Positive Psychology is a scientific field of study that focuses on optimal human functioning through effective interventions to build thriving individuals, organisations and communities. Positive Psychology Coaching uses a solution focused and evidence based grounding from this field, to enhance workplace performance and wellbeing.
How is it different to other coaching?
There are many definitions of coaching. Sir John Whitmore (2005), a pioneer of coaching, defines it as about “unlocking a person’s potential to learn, rather than seeing him as an empty vessel to be filled with knowledge. A useful metaphor is the acorn, which contains all that is needed to become an oak tree if it receives nourishment, encouragement and light. The coach provides that stimulation…uses a non-threatening dialogue to help the employee become aware of the actions necessary, enabling that person to choose to take responsibility.”
Positive Psychology Coaching sees a person’s potential to not only to learn but to also flourish beyond traditionally self-help or coaching methods.
