Mindfulness

Mindfulness

“Mindfulness is an opportunity to step back and respond more and react less to life,” says Danny Arguetty (University of Washington). “It’s a practice of paying attention so we can pause and make more skilful and empowered decisions, instead of making decisions that are rash or reactive.”

We can practice mindfulness throughout our everyday activities. One of my favourite practices involves my morning coffee. Rather than consuming it on autopilot, I take a few minutes to savour and appreciate it.

Some tips to support mindfulness with your coffee:

  • Don’t think about your to do list.
  • Think about your coffee.
  • Feel the warm steam rising from your cup.
  • Notice the aroma.
  • Taste it.
  • Notice the warmth and flavour.

Enjoy your time as a welcome break. It is an opportunity to slow down and reset.
